Box 2312Austin, Texas 78768512 796-4366www.nationalhomeless.org On 4-19-01, the National Coalition for the Homeless unanimously voted to pay all of their staff according to the ULW Formula. This means any employee of NCH will henceforth be paid at least an amount sufficient to afford them basic rental housing, food, clothing, shelter and access to healthcare in the Washington D.C. area. The following are the motions introduced at the April 2001 Board Meeting of the National Coalition for the Homeless in Washington DC by Richard R. Troxell. YEAR 2000 HOMELESS INITIATIVES Motion #1 That the phrase "ECONOMIC STATUS" be included in the list of anti-discriminatory classifications which usually read, "We do not discriminate on the basis of race, creed, color, religion, sex, national origin, marital status, political affiliation, familial status or disability." Motion #2 That NCH adopt a national policy encouraging the Alcohol Industry (through various means) to pay for the medical needs of those persons suffering serious ill effects from the use of their products. Hereinafter, referred to as the ALCOHOL PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY INITIATIVE. Motion #3 That NCH adopt and promote a UNIVERSAL LIVING WAGE FORMULA that is based on local economies and that 1. is indexed to the local cost of housing 2. ensures that no one pays more than 30% of their income on housing costs 3. utilizes the Fair Market Rents set each year by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development, HUD, and 4. ensures that no one receives less than the "political" minimum wage set by the United States Congress. Hereinafter, referred to as the UNIVERSAL LIVING WAGE INITIATIVE. Motion #4 That NCH utilize or create a national interactive petition web site as a means of garnering social and political support for various NCH initiatives at city, state and national levels. Motion #5 That the NCH PROTECTED CLASS RESOLUTION INITIATIVE, the ALCOHOL PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY ACT INITIATIVE, the ECONOMIC STATUS INITIATIVE and the UNIVERSAL LIVING WAGE INITIATIVE all be presented for support on a nationwide basis through an interactive petition site that is either acceptable to/or created by NCH. |
