To: U.S. Mayors/U.S. Congress According to the Mayor's survey of major cities; "In every state, more than the minimum wage is required to afford a one or two bedroom apartment at 30% of earned income." We the UNDERSIGNED, call for the replacement of the political process that currently establishes the federal minimum wage with a Universal Living Wage Formula. The Universal Living Wage would index the minimum wage to the local cost of housing in each city and outlying area throughout the U.S. as reset each year by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development through their Fair Market Rents. The Universal Living Wage would require that no one pay more than 30% of their income on housing. Finally, the Universal Living Wage would ensure a wage sufficient to access at least the cheapest of housing for anyone willing to work a forty hour week whether it be Austin, Boston, or L.A. etc. Sincerely, Richard R.
